Claiming Space
Photographic Installation
As Creative Producer and Collaborator on Claiming Space, Lincoln MacKinnon worked with artists Sam Kerr-Phillips and Hugo Flavelle, both wheelchair users, to create a photographic installation reimagining Fremantle’s public spaces through the lens of accessibility. MacKinnon led a team of designers, welders, photographers and installers to create two mobile, interactive artworks that challenged the physical and cultural barriers experienced by people with disability. Featuring a mobile tiki bar and a media-equipped wheelchair, the project transformed inaccessible sites into inclusive cultural encounters. Exhibited at wheelchair height, the works invited audiences to experience the city and its public spaces from a different perspective and were presented as part of the 10 Nights in Port Festival in 2022.
